Music Texas Style is proud to present Online Drum Lessons with the legendary - Dennis Howard
Musical Background:
From a very early age, Dennis Howard was surrounded by various musical sources. Both of his parents played instruments and in a deal with his parents for making him take dance classes, he started piano lessons at age 8. At age 12 his desire to play the drums took hold when lessons were offered at his school. Unfortunately the same desire took hold of many others, so he resigned himself to learning the trumpet. It was at age 13 his dream finally came true when he began private drum lessons and overtook the school drummer for the spot in the stage band.
During the summers of 1972 and 1973, Dennis participated in the National Stage Band Camps, which were staffed by the top Jazz musicians and instructors of the time, such as Gary Burton, Marion McPartland, Ed Soph and Lou Marini, many of whom are still recording and performing today.
In high School, Dennis traditionally shied away from music competitions as he had a very hectic schedule throughout his senior year, yet he was able to win a chair at the Illinois All-State Concert Band and become All-District as ½ of a snare drum duet, displaying just how promising a talent he possessed from such a young age.
