Online Guitar Music Lessons with Ken Wheeler.

In this series of lessons, Ken Wheeler will guide students through the most basic aspects of guitar playing. From learning the notes of each string, to how to tune your guitar, it is all included in this package.

Ken Wheeler will begin this series by showing you primary chords and how easy to use they are. He will teach you open string chording and strumming rhythms and most importantly he will teach you to have fun!

This package teaches the student the most common open string chords in the keys of D, A, G, E, C and A Minor.

Ken Wheeler teaches how chords using Open Strings fit together in a key to give students the ability to play thousands of other songs.

Ken has lived an incredible life, met an amazing assortment of individuals, and has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years. In these lessons, he shares this with you, through the songs that he plays and the stories that he tells.

  Lesson 1 - The Bottle Let Me Down
Lesson 1 - The Bottle Let Me Down

In your first lesson, Ken Wheeler will introduce you to the basic components of your guitar and the notation of the individual strings and their tunings.

He will also be teaching you the three "Primary" or "Basic Chords" and will demonstrate the ease of using them in a song.

Ken Wheeler will talk about different rhythms and timings and how you will use these in future lessons.

This lesson is played in 4/4 time and teaches the chords D and A7 in the Key of D.

Most importantly Ken Wheeler will remind you that although, as you know, it may be hard work to learn a new instrument, it will be rewarding and with perseverance, you will be successful.

  Lesson 2 - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Lesson 2 - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry

Continuing from the first lesson, Ken Wheeler will elaborate in this session upon the three chords learned in lesson one.

Showing how effortless guitar playing can be, Ken Wheeler will explain and demonstrate skills to minimize the difficulty in playing.

He will play through a waltz with you, using the basic chords learned, and encourage you to play along. This enables you to practice playing along to music without losing the beat.

The waltz is played in 3/4 time using the chords E,A, and B7 in the Key of E

Using another rhythm method, Ken Wheeler will refer to the accompanying tablature received when you subscribed to the lessons, to make sure you're up to speed on chords, rhythms and most importantly your guitar! He will also talk about how you should be experiencing sore fingers by this point!

You can then accompany Ken playing the song "Cold, Cold Heart", in 4/4 time,using the chords D, G and A7 in the Key of D3

Lesson 4 - How Long Blues

Introducing a new chord can be incredibly easy as demonstrated by Ken Wheeler in this lesson.

You will playing the Blues song in this lesson in 4/4 time using the chords E, A and B7 in the Key of E3

He will discuss how much to expect from yourself at this point as a beginner learning to play the guitar.

Also there will be an expectation from Ken Wheeler for you to have practiced notes and chords and maybe even some songs. These are the things that you need to do to succeed as a guitar player.

Musical Background:

Hailing from a highly musical family, Ken Wheeler took his first guitar lesson at age 9 at McCord Music in Dallas, Texas, and later began teaching there in 1957.

He became a jazz and blues fan at a very young age citing some of his earliest influences as Johnny Smith and Chet Atkins.

Throughout Ken’s vast career he has held music clinics, worked for the Chicago Musical Instrument Corporation, played with two of his all-time favorite artists, Chet Atkins and Muddy Waters, and has continued his love of teaching simultaneously. Studying the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with Ken Wheeler would be as close as you could get to playing with them in real life. He has recorded TV specials that were aired around the US, and has recorded CD's and instruction videos sold worldwide under the name "University of the Blues".

Ken has also appeared in a number of newspaper and magazine articles over the years including the Dallas Morning News, and has written a varied number of articles that have been published across America. Ken Wheeler has led a truly incredible and blessed life. He has met an amazing assortment of individuals and has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years.

Teaching Experience:

Ken has been both an electric and acoustic guitar teacher for the past 50 years. He is a highly dedicated and motivational teacher who believes learning should be fun. Since he has taught thousands of students over the years, he is fully aware of all the potential pitfalls and problems that are faced by students wishing to learn a new instrument.

For the past 20 years he has taught at the world renowned “Charley’s Guitar Shop" in Dallas, Texas. Throughout his extensive teaching career, Ken has even taught members of the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Stars along with some of the great Country and Western hall of famers.

If you study the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with him, it will be as close as you can get to studying with Freddie King or Muddy Waters themselves.
