Online Guitar Music Lessons with Ken Wheeler.

In this lesson pack, Ken Wheeler will share with you his knowledge of Blues music by teaching you 4 simple Blues song that you can play along to.

Playing along with 12 Bar Blues rhythms offers students major assistance with ear training and is one of the most fun things a beginner can do with his instruments and his quickly learned.

At the beginning of each lesson, Ken will discuss which chords are needed for the song, and which key the songs are played in.

Slightly more advanced than Lesson Pack number 1, Ken welcomes more advanced players, or those who simply need a few pointers here and there.

  Lesson 5: Hoo Doo Man
Lesson 5 - Hoo Doo Man

In this lesson, Ken Wheeler will teach you the most popular and widely used chords that you will ever learn to play on your guitar. You may not have heard of the term "fifths", but you've most likely heard of the term, "Power Chords!"

These power chords are played using the 1st and 5th notes in a scale.

Also in this lesson, Ken Wheeler will be teaching the most common of all guitar Blues and Rock rhythms

Here Ken Wheeler will address the kinds of music you will be playing while under his instruction and demonstrates the Blues style with Jimmy Reed's song, "Bright Lights, Big City"

You will be using power chord rhythms in a Shuffle beat blues rhythm

Ken Wheeler will encourage you to keep your patience and persevere, even if you may be finding the lessons, or even practicing alone, difficult.

This lesson will be particularly helpful with finger speed and ear training.

Adding new chord changes and learning note positions on the guitar can seem daunting. But throughout the individual videos, Ken Wheeler will not only tell you where to place your fingers on the guitar frets, he will demonstrate it himself, so you can see exactly what to do.

Ken Wheeler will make reference to previous lessons, but also welcomes students who are slightly more advanced and starting their instruction at this level.

Musical Background:

Hailing from a highly musical family, Ken Wheeler took his first guitar lesson at age 9 at McCord Music in Dallas, Texas, and later began teaching there in 1957.

He became a jazz and blues fan at a very young age citing some of his earliest influences as Johnny Smith and Chet Atkins.

Throughout Ken’s vast career he has held music clinics, worked for the Chicago Musical Instrument Corporation, played with two of his all-time favorite artists, Chet Atkins and Muddy Waters, and has continued his love of teaching simultaneously. Studying the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with Ken Wheeler would be as close as you could get to playing with them in real life. He has recorded TV specials that were aired around the US, and has recorded CD's and instruction videos sold worldwide under the name "University of the Blues".

Ken has also appeared in a number of newspaper and magazine articles over the years including the Dallas Morning News, and has written a varied number of articles that have been published across America. Ken Wheeler has led a truly incredible and blessed life. He has met an amazing assortment of individuals and has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years.

Teaching Experience:

Ken has been both an electric and acoustic guitar teacher for the past 50 years. He is a highly dedicated and motivational teacher who believes learning should be fun. Since he has taught thousands of students over the years, he is fully aware of all the potential pitfalls and problems that are faced by students wishing to learn a new instrument.

For the past 20 years he has taught at the world renowned “Charley’s Guitar Shop" in Dallas, Texas. Throughout his extensive teaching career, Ken has even taught members of the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Stars along with some of the great Country and Western hall of famers.

If you study the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with him, it will be as close as you can get to studying with Freddie King or Muddy Waters themselves.
