LESSON SERIES: Beginning Guitar - Lesson Pack 3

Online Guitar Music Lessons with Ken Wheeler.

Having mastered basic chords, rhythms, fretwork and finger positioning from previous lessons, students will be taught additional chords and variations upon the rhythms already learned.

Through this segment of lessons, Ken Wheeler will also be teaching the individual guitar parts, both and lead and rhythm, on specific songs. Playing along with both parts of a song greatly improves the students timing and ability to play with others or a real band.

Students can now expect Tablature to be introduced and to learn how to play and read simple lead harmony 2 and 3 notes, played at the same time. Students should also expect more complicated chord changes in this lesson giving them all the tools to help them advance further on their path to becoming a true musician.

Lesson 9 - My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

In this lesson, Ken Wheeler will explain that you should be carefully following how the levels are advancing in order for you to maintain a constant learning process and not fall behind.

Some students will be welcomed, having been recommended which lesson pack to begin with, form taking private lessons with Ken Wheeler.

In this lesson, Ken Wheeler will guide you through playing a waltz using the three primary chords you have learned.

You will also now begin to play along with more complicated and quicker chord changes, and with more open strings being involved.

Here Ken Wheeler will expand your chord knowledge by teaching you the chords C, C7, A7, D Minor, D7, E Minor, C Sharp Diminished7, F and G.

He will go on to teach you the song "Crazy", which is the first song in a lesson to involve playing lead melodies. As usual you can play alongside, watching Ken Wheeler's finger positioning on his guitar and following the rhythm of the music.

The song "Sleepwalk" has been recorded numerous times over the years by artists such as Chet Atkins, Joe Satriani and even by Ken Wheeler himself. In this tutorial, Ken Wheeler will be teaching you how to play this very song.

Ken Wheeler will also mention Tablature in this lesson, how to read this method of writing melodies for the guitar and how guitar tablature is easier to read than other forms of printed music.

As of yet, Ken Wheeler has played every song to a backing track, not only that, but every song has had words. In this lesson, you will be learning to play an instrumental song and in order to determine the correct timings, you will be playing the song, in the first instance, unaccompanied.

Playing an absolute rock classic, Ken Wheeler will teach you that while some songs will be in the 4/4 pattern you may be accustomed to, they won't necessarily share the same rhythm.

Ken Wheeler will be schooling you on how to play the rhythm guitar section of the song, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", and will demonstrate the motion and hand positioning for you to follow.

He will also be showing you the fret markers, by dots, on the guitar neck.

Musical Background:

Hailing from a highly musical family, Ken Wheeler took his first guitar lesson at age 9 at McCord Music in Dallas, Texas, and later began teaching there in 1957.

He became a jazz and blues fan at a very young age citing some of his earliest influences as Johnny Smith and Chet Atkins.

Throughout Ken’s vast career he has held music clinics, worked for the Chicago Musical Instrument Corporation, played with two of his all-time favorite artists, Chet Atkins and Muddy Waters, and has continued his love of teaching simultaneously. Studying the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with Ken Wheeler would be as close as you could get to playing with them in real life. He has recorded TV specials that were aired around the US, and has recorded CD's and instruction videos sold worldwide under the name "University of the Blues".

Ken has also appeared in a number of newspaper and magazine articles over the years including the Dallas Morning News, and has written a varied number of articles that have been published across America. Ken Wheeler has led a truly incredible and blessed life. He has met an amazing assortment of individuals and has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years.

Teaching Experience:

Ken has been both an electric and acoustic guitar teacher for the past 50 years. He is a highly dedicated and motivational teacher who believes learning should be fun. Since he has taught thousands of students over the years, he is fully aware of all the potential pitfalls and problems that are faced by students wishing to learn a new instrument.

For the past 20 years he has taught at the world renowned “Charley’s Guitar Shop" in Dallas, Texas. Throughout his extensive teaching career, Ken has even taught members of the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Stars along with some of the great Country and Western hall of famers.

If you study the styles of Freddie King or Muddy Waters with him, it will be as close as you can get to studying with Freddie King or Muddy Waters themselves.
