LESSON SERIES: Beginning Banjo - Lesson Pack 2

Online Banjo Music Lessons with Rich Schroeder.

This package of lessons focuses on a great many things you will need to perfect in order to master the art of playing the Banjo.

From speed of playing and hand positions, to playing in different keys and varying scales, Rich will be taking you through step by step all of the necessary elements of banjo playing.

Students will also learn advanced techniques such as slides, pull-offs and hammer-ons.

Lesson 5 - Thumb in-and-out Roll

	Rich will now move on to teach you how to perform a thumb in-and-out roll. Demonstrating the individual strings to be plucked and the fingers used to pluck them, you will ultimately need to work on speed and hand positions on your second roll.

Lesson 6 - Ready to Roll?

	In this lesson students will learn three new rolls, the forward-backward roll, the "Foggy Mountain" roll and the reverse roll. You will also learn the song Worried Man Blues.

Lesson 7 - Techniques

	This lesson, Rich will teach you about scales focusing on the notes in a G scale and a C scale. You will also begin to learn some rather difficult techniques in this lesson, including slides, pull-offs and hammer-ons.

Lesson 8 - Roll in my Sweet Baby's Arms

	Rich will now teach you your first song including rolls. You will be combining all the notes, chords, rolls and techniques you have learned in previous lessons in order to achieve perfection when playing this song.

Musical Background:

Richard Schroeder began learning the Banjo from very traditional players, though quickly learned that when playing the Banjo it was important that you developed a style of playing that was unique to yourself.

Since then he has gone on to create a very progressive method. He emerged at the forefront of the Newgrass Movement, with his band The Monroe Doctrine, in the 70�s.

Not long after this, he fell under the influence of the great swing fiddler, Johnny Gimble, and quickly became nationally renowned, playing with the likes of Hylo Brown and Bill Monroe.

Teaching Experience:

Richard is an experienced Bluegrass and Jazz Banjo player. His unique approach to learning banjo stresses ear training with a healthy dose of music theory.

Genres:

Richard can teach anything, but is especially proficient in Bluegrass and Blues standards.
